Law enforcers arrest about a dozen suspects in different raids

They claim that they have also arrested two members of the TPP.

KARACHI: Two special units of the police claimed that it apprehended a dozen suspects, including two alleged members of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), during separate raids in different parts of the city on Monday.

The Crime Investigation Department arrested six men allegedly involved in various unlawful activities. The suspects caught were identified as Ejaz, Fateh Khan, Akbar Khan, Tabish, Imam Buksh and Adnan Khan. These men were arrested from different parts of the city, including Korangi Industrial Area, Sohrab Goth and Saddar. A Kalashnikov, four TT pistols and narcotics were also seized by the law enforcers during the raids.

One of these suspects, Ejaz, was said to be an activist of a political party, but the officials did not disclose which one he was affiliated to. He was accused of robbing Rs3.3 million from a bank in Shara-e-Faisal in 2010.

Fateh Khan and his accomplice, Akbar Ali, were involved in the murder of Gul Feroz. The suspects killed him because they thought that he was a police informant. The law enforcers said that the suspects were associated to the TTP and used to provide logistical support to members of the group. SSP Khan said that cases have been registered against them and further investigation is in progress.

The Crime Branch was also successful in apprehending several criminals on Monday. It claimed that it arrested people after a brief encounter.

A team headed by SSP Farooq Awan raided Chanesar Goth in Mehmoodabad and arrested six criminals who have been identified as Imran alias Immi, Irfan alias Jabal, Bashir alias Nanna Shedhi, Imran alias Mani, Farooq alias Rotha and Zulfiqar. The team also seized a sub-machine gun, a repeater, four TT pistols and several rounds from the suspects. Officials from the Crime Branch said that the raid was conducted after an arrested person revealed the whereabouts of the suspects during an interrogation. These people were said to be associated with the notorious drug peddler Ashok. Cases have been registered against them and further investigation is under way.
