Gilani chairs federal cabinet meeting in Peshawar

Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to brief cabinet about current security situation in tribal belt, development projects.

PESHAWAR: A federal cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Yousaf  Raza Gillani, is currently underway at the Governor House in Peshawar.

Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar is expected to brief the cabinet. Amongst the list of issues to be addressed today (Wednesday), the security situation in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) tops the agenda.

Sources said that the governor will brief the cabinet about the current security situation in the tribal belt and the development projects that have been initiated in the area.

Chief Minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Hoti has also been invited to attend the meeting. Sources say that Hoti will discuss several issues, including the pending dues the federation has to pay related to the net hydel profit.

Earlier, the government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa had asked the federal government to increase its share in net profits earned by Islamabad from hydropower generation in the province.

It is expected that Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) issue, steel mill issue and the voting process for overseas Pakistanis will also be discussed in today's meeting.
