Arrested: 16 suspects caught in raids in the city

KARACHI: Around 16 suspects including political party workers were arrested in different parts of the city on Friday.

In a joint raid by the Rangers and police, eight men were detained from Khwaja Ajmer Nagri in New Karachi. Sources claim that the suspects were taken into custody from the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) office in Rasheedabad. PTI Unit In-charge Altaf Mehsud was also arrested.

Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station DSP Altaf Hussain said that the police was only assisting the Rangers. He added that they did not hand over the suspects to the police.

However, the PTI provincial information secretary Sarwar Rajpot told The Express Tribune that Mehsud was suspended ten days ago over some complaints by the residents.

He said that the office was closed when the Rangers came in. He added that the suspects had no links with the party. The crime range (West Zone) police claimed to have seized weapons from a water tank Orangi Town. According to SP Khurram Waris, they conducted raid in the government school cricket ground in Pakistan Bazaar and seized three Kalashnikovs and three 7mm rifles.

He added that the raid was conducted on a tip-off for a target killer named Asif alias Qudoos. The police officer added that Qudoos was affiliated with a political party and was arrested a few days ago. In another raid the Rangers arrested four suspects identified as Dost Mohammad, Abdul Khaliq, Kamran and Ishaq Baloch from Naik Mohammad Goth in Orangi Town.

They seized three TT pistols and drugs from them. The Jauharabad police claim to have caught four suspects from a car-lifting gang after an encounter near the UBL Sports Complex in Federal B Area.
