ISLAMABAD: The United States has assured Pakistani business community that it will facilitate in promoting entrepreneurship in a bid to attract investment and create employment opportunities.

US Embassy Commercial Counsellor Brian McCleary stated this at a presentation given here on Wednesday at the Global Entrepreneurship Week organised by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).

He pointed to the huge potential of mutual cooperation between Pakistan and the US in different sectors including power generation, construction, information and communications technology, health, transportation, agricultural technology, food processing, consumer goods and services.

He said the US embassy, through its economic and commercial affairs team, could assist entrepreneurship in enhancing capabilities.

“Today is better time than ever to start a business and get alternative access to a variety of resources for potential business,” he said, adding that increasingly the government can make doing business easier in the hope of creating jobs and tapping the economic growth potential of entrepreneurship.

He noted that entrepreneurship was facing challenges of an underdeveloped financial system, over-developed bureaucracies and insufficient infrastructure.

ICCI President Yassar Sakhi Butt, in his opening remarks, said that the country should promote culture of entrepreneurship. “Entrepreneurship cannot be promoted without promoting its culture,” he said, adding the government should also extend financial support to this sector.
