LAHORE:

Families affected by last year’s floods will soon be invited to move into 36 ‘model villages’ built with donations made to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Some 89 model villages are supposed to be built.

“These model villages are being built with funds from the CM’s Relief Fund for Tameer-i-Punjab. About Rs1.55 billion was donated to the fund,” officials said.

They said that the government had provided official land for 17 villages and had bought the land for the other 19 villages. They said that the model villages had a water supply, sewerage system, dispensaries and schools. They did not say when these or the rest of the villages would be finished. They said the government had set aside Rs1.2 billion for road repair and Rs2.75 billion to restore the irrigation system.
