JHANG: Two people were arrested late Wednesday night during an operation launched by the Jhang police across the district against a banned organisation.

Rauf and Liaqat, workers of the organisation, were taken into custody for allegedly putting up banners of the organisation near its head office in Mohallah Pipliyan Walla. The head office was sealed and flags and banners of the organisation were removed from throughout the district.

Talking to the media, Mauawia Azam, son of Maulana Azam Tariq, who is the provincial president of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat, alleged that the building sealed by the police was under his personal use. He said that his family was sleeping inside when the police broke in and sealed the house. They were taken out on Thursday morning by using ladders through the windows, he added.

The government officials concerned told a private TV channel that the operation was initiated in the wake of a meeting between the prime minister, the chief ministers and the heads of police force of all four provinces regarding the security situation.
