Climate Change: Pakistan faces ‘greatest risk’

KARACHI: According to a report by the Asian Development Bank, Pakistan faces the “greatest risk” from severe climate change. Other countries mentioned in the report include Bangladesh, India and Maldives, facing the same threat. The report is titled “Climate Change and Migration in Asia and the Pacific”, also termed Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, China and South Korea as “specially vulnerable”. In 2010 more than 30 million people in the region were displaced by environmental disasters such as storms and floods. The bank will form a policy and financing recommendations on how to cushion the impact of climate disasters on peoples of the region by the end of 2011, said the report.
