SUKKUR:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) call for a day of mourning meant that most bazaars and commercial centres were closed on Tuesday.

While Sukkur’s trade bodies such as Sarrafa Bazaar Association, Shahi Bazaar Association, Frere Road Association responded to the MQM’s strike call by closing, fruit and vegetable markets and some shops on Barrage Road were open. Though petrol pumps were closed in the morning, they eventually began supplying fuel by the afternoon. The MQM zone incharge, Qutubuddin, led a rally of MQM workers from the zone office at Jinnah Chowk to the national press club, where they staged a demonstration.

A heavy contingent of police was deployed at all the main roads and bazaars.
