Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao arrived in Islamabad ahead of India-Pakistan talks, on Wednesday.

Rao is the first of three high-profile Indian officials to visit Pakistan in the next four weeks and is scheduled to hold talks with Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir.

The India External Affairs Ministry and Pakistan Foreign Affairs Ministry have formalized a framework to make sure the meetings are result-oriented.

Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram is expected to arrive in Islamabad on Saturday to participate in the SAARC meeting of interior ministers.

Talking to Express News, the Foreign Office spokesperson said the current cold relations between India and Pakistan were not helping anyone, and that India’s influence in Afghanistan may come up for discussion during the SAARC meetings.
