KARACHI:

Land department records will be computerised to protect documents pertaining to land, properties and other records from being misused, said Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar on Wednesday.

“Citizens often complain about their property documents being forged or multiple files of a single property. Keeping such grievances in view, we decided to develop software through which the details of the property can be accessed with a single click,” he said while talking to finance department officials.

The mayor pointed out that we were now in a digital era and manual record-keeping in all departments had been replaced by computers.

He added that with digitisation, documents could not be altered and if someone did so, it would be a cognisable offence. “Strict action will be taken against the violators,” he said, adding that he wanted to equip Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) with modern technology.
