The Chiltan Express left the Quetta railway station for Faisalabad at 9:15 am and the bomb exploded when it reached the Darakhshan area in Saryab. The track was partially damaged. However, no casualties were reported. The train departed for Faisalabad two hours later after officials repaired the track.
Officials from the police and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) rushed to the site soon after the blast and cordoned off the area. Official sources said that a remote-controlled device had been found in District Sui of Dera Bugti and the BDS managed to defuse the five kilogrammes of explosives.
Police inspector shot dead
Meanwhile, a police inspector was gunned down on Saryab Road on Saturday morning.
According to official sources, Investigation Officer Abdul Wahab left home early in the morning and was on his way to Saryab Police Station when unidentified men riding on a motorcycle opened fire at him near the Saryab Mill.
He received multiple bullet wounds in the upper part of his torso and the attackers managed to flee. Wahab succumbed to his injuries while he was being taken to the Government Sandman Hospital, Quetta, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Hospital sources said he was hit by seven bullets.
A senior police officer told The Express Tribune that it was a case of target killing but added that they were investigating the incident further. Police have cordoned off the area to search for clues. The funeral prayers of the slain police officer were offered in Police Lines, Quetta.
Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Khan Raisani condemned Wahab’s killing. According to a handout issued on Saturday, he said the relevant authorities must investigate the incident and arrest his killers as early as possible. He also directed the home department to provide compensation to his family.
