Polio eradication: UNICEF, Gates Foundation assure support

Unicef and the Gates Foundation assured to extend all possible support to eradicate polio in the province.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Minister for Health Syed Zahir Ali Shah said the province is working for the eradication of polio with partner organisations. Talking to delegations of Unicef and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation at his residence on Thursday, he said that the eradication of polio in K-P is possible only through team work.


The delegations comprised of Dr Denis King, Dr Waqar Ajmal, Dr Bilal Ahmad and Dr Imtiaz Ali. Health Special Secretary Dr Noorul Iman, Health Services Director General (DG) Dr Mohammad Ali Chohan, Deputy Director and ERI Dr Janbaz also attended.

The provincial minister said, “The negligence of one official defamed the whole institute, therefore we made it clear that stern action would be taken against members of the team showing negligence in heir duties.”

Earlier, the representatives of Unicef and the Gates Foundation assured the provincial minister to extend all possible support to the department of health to eradicate polio in the province.
