LAHORE:

Stage actor Anwar Ali has been granted bail in a case for the attempted murder of stuntman Sultan Golden in a drive-by shooting.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Sana Khan Attique on Monday set bail at Rs50,000, provided Ali promised to cooperate with the investigation, and directed officials to present the complete case record on June 25.

Ali’s lawyer, arguing his plea for bail, said that the charges against his client were false and the case had been registered with the intention of damaging his reputation.

Golden lodged the complaint against Ali, a famous comedian, at Faisal Town police station under Sections 440 and 337(h)(ii) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The FIR says that on February 2, Golden was heading to a mosque for Fajr prayers from his house (Golden Plaza) on Link Road when a car drove towards him and an unidentified person opened fire on him from within the vehicle. Golden was not hurt.

He said that Faisal Town police later arrived at the scene and collected the bullet shells as evidence. He said that he suspected Ali was behind the attack because the two are also involved in a dispute over property, concerning which a case had been registered against Ali at Naseerabad police station.

Golden said that Ali had forged documents to claim ownership of a shop that belonged to him.
