ISLAMABAD : Amir Fida Paracha, a spokesperson for former president and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, rejected the news declaring Zardari an absconder, terming it “false and based on bad intentions”.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the spokesperson said, “This is an attempt to damage political goodwill of the former president.”

Paracha said, “As a matter of truth, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Bashir Memon is an enemy of the PPP and its leadership and his brother is a Grand Democratic Alliance candidate in the elections.

“He wants to influence the election outcome by using his office and thus favour his brother.”

The PPP had demanded that Bashir Memon be removed from his office so that independent, fair and transparent elections could take place.

The spokesperson, on the other hand, said Additional FIA DG Najaf Quli Mirza had tortured Zardari when he was in jail and allegedly cut his tongue. “Asif Zardari has filed a case against him.”

Paracha said that according to a report presented in the Supreme Court about the case, Zardari’s name did not appear in the list of accused.

“There is no truth in the news stories being run on TV channels that Zardari has been declared an absconder. These stories are based on ill-intentions and the purpose is to damage the political goodwill of Zardari,” Paracha said, adding that such tactics would not succeed.
