The Lahore High Court (LHC) lifted the ban on social networking website Facebook on Monday.
LHC has lifted the ban on Facebook.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) lifted the ban on social networking website Facebook on Monday.
During today’s proceedings, the court demanded guarantees that blasphemous content will not be accessible to users in Pakistan. The court observed that the act would be treated as contempt of court if it is repeated again.
Meanwhile, deputy attorney general and PTA representative assured the court it would not happen again. The court also outlined the government’s responsibility in such cases.
Internet service providers (ISPs) are still responding to LHC orders to open Facebook for users.
The Lahore High Court banned Facebook on May 19 for hosting a blasphemous drawing contest and asked PTA to submit a written reply.
Menwhile, the next hearing was adjourned till June 15.
The popular social networking website was banned by the Lahore High Court after a controversy over it hosting blasphemous caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Muslims across the world were offended by a Facebook page which declared May 20 a day to caricature Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Despite a growing surge of protests by Muslims, Facebook had opted not to remove the page.
The court had temporarily banned the social networking site Facebook till May 31 across the country. It had issued the order after an Islamic forum of lawyers sought ban on access to the popular social networking site for holding a contest of drawing caricatures on Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The controversial page by the name “Draw Muhammad Day” had been created by a Facebook user in response to American cartoonist, Molly Noris’s protest to the decision of US television channel, Comedy Central to to cancel an episode of the popular show “South Park” over its depiction of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
Noris had however disavowed having declared May 20 “Draw Muhammad Day” and had condemned the effort and issued an apology. The page was subsequently removed by the creator.

The court lifting the ban is one thing, the government lifting another. The ban had become something of an irrelevance anyway as there is plenty of evidence that people are finding proxy workarounds that enable them to view and post there – as they had from the beginning. As governments everywhere are finding, even in countries where internet access in heavily interdicted, limiting access short of cutting the entire country off from the net is extremely difficult. Netizens work together to find ways around. They did this time and they will again.Recommend
I think justice sahib has been missing facebook a lot as he took no time to lift ban. ;)Recommend
Gud BUT Bad…..
Facebook should banned forever
but now
We have to boycott Facebook…..
By Deleting our accounts……Replace our pics with boycott pics.Recommend
The step taken by the lahore high court did not made any financial impact on facebook.
no Muslim will ever visit that controversial page.
what the courts have to do, they are not doing, and they dont need to do they do it.
corrupt courts of pakistan at least people were rising their voice against that page on facebook when they used it.
now our protest was blockes by the high court.
why dont they talk about docter aafia and drone attacks.
please allah give them a proper idea that what they have to do. Recommend
Thank you LHC :)
God forbid if such a thing should happen again the future we should find a better way of fighting these people back instead of shutting the web site and getting more unnecessary attention and then letting them have a free hand to do whatever they want.Recommend
Against this decision.
@Tribune admin: Has facebook owners assured us that it will never happen again??Recommend
on what grounds the ban has been lifted? who defended the case? This is seriously something to think over.Recommend
Facebook ban left, buy its our Religion, Morly, Ethically duty bcot the face book join Facevisa.com its similar to facebookRecommend
i appreciated the court decision on 19th May to block the access of Facebook and i appreciate the court decision to lift the ban.Recommend
Good job, LHC. Glad you realized it was futile. Better late than never.Recommend
All that tamasha for nothing. FB still blocked, when can we get back on??Recommend
Finally, the LHC does the need full. It’s not that life without Facebook was unthinkable but the fact that the government and the religiously intolerant who were making that choice for us. Everyone has the mind and the right to make choices. If offended by a certain aspect of a site, dont go to the site, simple. Why ban it? Why confirm the worlds views on Pakistan and Islam being highly intolerant? Given the current political climate one would imagine we’d try and separate ourselves from those factions in the country who feel that anything or anyone who diverges from “their view of Islam” are sinners. Recommend
Awesome. please no more ban on any internet site in future. Recommend
Also, in reference to all these Facebook protests, can the people of Pakistan understand that WE CANNOT KILL EVERYONE WHO DISAGREES with us or our beliefs. Some of the stuff said at these protests are horrendous. The premise of Islam, as I see it, is not to kill everyone who disagrees with it but to spread knowledge about it. All these people are spreading is an awful amount of hatred.Recommend
So, we loved the Prophet (PBUH) only till 31st may 2010? Good to know.Recommend
Now i will see how many of those PROTESTERS really boycott Facebook and delete their account from FB and go join MillatFB !
It feels good to imagine FB all clean of ‘Extremists’..LMAO :D Recommend
no more bans on facebook !!!!!! thanxx you allRecommend
Erm, its pretty ridiculous to ban Facebook, considering everything else that is going on in Pakistan. It just shows how pathetic our government is. I’m pretty sure our Prophet wont be too happy with us at the moment. :) Recommend
The important thing is that… has FB learnt its lesson at policy level? It’s important that policies for acting on reports of offensive material are altered… and implementedRecommend
When the muslim were united like one body, nobody cannot do it even think. Now the condition of Muslim all over the world are not satisfactorally. It is not possible to re-united the muslim community until we follow the Quran and Sunnah. You imagine how we can face Muhammad-e-Arabi in Roz-e-Qayamt, who Muhammad-e-Arabi, in all life as well as last of day of his life who pray for Ummah. What our response, what our reaction and what we are doing. Most of Muslim plung into wine and Ze’na. Just we can think and nothing and left the world with trouble and hardships. Recommend
Finally!! But sadly the damage has been done and a precedent set… we will have to guard our few liberties even more carefully now. I think I’m going to hang on to my proxy software for a while…. :DRecommend

i have deleted my account from facebook. and i am the part of Millat facebook.. Pakistani done a good job so i am promoting millat facebook:)
and about extremist, “those extremist” are still the part of facebook, you fail people can compete them thats why will be their in facebook even they made some thing wrong for your country and for your family.Recommend
Its not working yet, the thing we did was so embarrassing, we embarrassed ourselves and our faiths, see our people are still on roads, still blocking roads, torching tires, and the whole episode of how we reacted brought a new wave of extremism and those attacks on Qadyanis can possibly be related to that new fresh wave of extremism. God bless us, cause mostly we dont know what we do, we are just mindless puppets moving on the move of their fingers and how they pull our strings. and by THEM may be some of us would know what i mean.Recommend
Just add yourself into millatfacebook.com too and start shifting to it asap. Spread it around amongst your friends. They pushed us on 28th may 1997 and we became world atomic power. They pushed us again on 28th May 2010. Lets put our share to prove them that we did it then and we can do it again this time too.
Its spreading fast though they are doing their best to hack http://www.millatfacebook.comRecommend
In my opinion the best way to protest against such competition was the Facebook itself. Muslims would have used Facebook as a platform to protest against such blasphemy rather than banning it.Recommend
And on what basis did the PTA provide this guarantee? How on earth are they going to regulate such outrageous occurrences over something as widespread as the Internet?!Recommend
mean they yet posting that material agains our be loved Hazart Muhammad S.A.W.W but our govt. just anounced that dont show in Pakistan???? mean they stil posting againt our Prophet?????
So we are still shameless(BEGHERAT) people by this opening order we realize we dont have power to protest.. muslims has no area? we dont have protest power?
This is not Love with ALLAH and His Last Prophet .. we just showing our useless attitute.. Govt. cant do any thing as well … This act shows this is not our Muslim’s Govt. They are just bludy poors & slave.. bludy rascals
BYCOT FACEBOOK FOREVER IF YOU REALLY LOVES HAZARAT MUHAMMAD S.A.W.W
ALLAH HUAKBAR!!!!Recommend
The government should have stopped the objectionable page rather than blocking the entire siteRecommend
@ismail
yes they are still posting and you cannot do anything about it…israel and america are against holocaust-deniers but still there are millions of pages on holocaust denial on the internet….china is against taiwan freedom but there are millions of pages on taiwan freedom and dalai lama etc…and china cannot do anything about it…internet is something which is out of control of anybody…and this is not ghairat to block access to internet…does the blockade affected facebook in anyway? it is just like closing your eyes when you see anything criminal or shameful….i have not read or heard any islamic teaching which order the muslims to close their eyes when they see anything unwanted….i think there were millions of kaafirs living at the time of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) and He never ordered to destroy them or their places of worship or anything like this…in the famous Hudebia Pact, the kaafirs objected to the word “Messenger of ALLAH” and what the Prophet did?did he ordered the muslims that kaafirs have insulted me and you should burned tires and cars and KFCs and boycott facebook? NO! Our Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said ok if you people object to this I will write my name on the Pact is only Muhammad. This was the attitude of our Prophet (S.A.W) towards kaafirs..thats why He is considered the greatest Lawyer by Lincoln Inn and He is the first one in 100 most influential people of the all time…recognized even by non.muslims….but with our acts and deeds we are just bringing shame unto islam and ourselves muslims…we can kill 100 Ahamdis in their worship place but we ask USA to block Facebook? who is gonna beleive us or take us seriously? Before reacting we should ask ourselve that in any situation : WHAT WOULD MUHAMMAD (S.A.W)DO? this should be the guideline for our reaction..not some JTI or taliban or any other extremists calling for killing all kafirs…Recommend
Great decision! It was foolish to ban facebook in the first place.Recommend
I am not a lawyer so can any one tell me that can a high court of a province pass an order for the whole country. Secondly there is a Baluchistan High Court, a Sindh High Court then why we do not have a Punjab High Court?Recommend
all the SWEET people have now an option – just go to MFB and stop passing judgements on other people. END OF.Recommend

Know the truth and speak: Well said !
Ansar: We did the same Rizvi sb, we tried convincing people and those who came along we stayed there and protested rather than running away and boycotting.
Sarfaraz: Sir, we have been saying that since quite long but thanks to ‘some’ great people who have set the minds of people for boycotts only there was no improvement :s
Sadia: Good to know there are people who can stand up and speak..:)
Khalid: Welcome to Pakistan :DRecommend
People supporting the ban are idiots. Those supporting the ban, please dont come back to facebook. We wont miss you. Recommend
Someone whose is propagating here regarding Millat facebook or such alternatives please keep it to himself. By that statement, the PTA means, it won’t allow the Pakistanis to view such pages (that are blasphemous to Islam) again. Sounds absurd to me. HEHERecommend
i also read here that a lot of people wanted “centralised/regulated internet”…WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? do you know the internet has to be decentralised to work as a democratic medium!
This also points to the mass hysteria/paranoia the Zia regime managed to instill in our minds…
People wake up…do you know how much in denial you are??? first of all your colonial baggage of being inferior then being a sinful/untrustworthy muslim/human being and hence copying the arabs and now the global inferiority complex…….!Recommend
facebook ban not yet lifted.. can anyone tell when the order will be implementedRecommend

I want to describe a generalized view of our public by quoting an example. “Once a school kid was asked to participate in annual debates, the topic was favor lassi or pespi. Every child in school was a pepsi lover, but when it came to voting. They voted for lassi, showing traditional support”
They do the same crap when voting for politicians. And now the same crap on views related to FB. Lolzz i dont understand, the supporters of millat FB how will u be able to forget FB when u have the same colors, same format etc U guyz R “Titto COPY CATS”. And look at the confidence with which they are talking here. Its amazing!
Next the people still crying for permanent bann, ” You guys got no right to JUDGE anyone. Remember Islam says the only judge of the world is Allah Almighty” So dont judge others.” Anger and frustration holds the max amount of energy, but if it is wasted in craps you will get nothing out of it. Wise people always store this energy and utilize it in the best possible way. Seems like people with your kinda ideas when can’t do anything start killing own Pakistani residents; like whatever happened in Lhr, and now threats to Churches in PAK. Thats awfully sad to see, you guys still dont have a strategic way of dealing with things. When i look at people like you, my heart sinks to see we are still in “DOR-E-JAHALAT”
No one here is anti-islamic, the one who use FB and also the ones who dont. So whats the point of fighting with one another? Are we talilbaans? Infact our approach should be “give yer damn” to crap. U people calim to be more islam lovers than us. So you should know its end of time. All judgement day predictions will come true one way or the other. So “Bhai kis kis ko block karo gay” If you limit your barriers to Pakistan by cutting of from the rest of the world in everyway. Even then it wont end.
You should understand that these games are far more bigger than your little brains. So boycotting will only help those who want to do all kinda rubbish against us. But Some sensible people here undetstand that FB itself is the right platform to not only answer them back. But also have a check on how far they can go on being racist.
Anyways for understanding these things you need a little global perspective. And that doesnt come within a week or so. If you stay like a frog of the well. You will only produce tadpoles. Specially on plarforms like “millat fb”.
I just want to end up by saying that I really appreciate all those who try to put an effort and making our country’s such kind of population realize that times have changed. Your old strategies are out dated now. So better understand the crap and deal with it accordingly.
I really want to thank; all those you understood the bann thing was getting Pakistan no where.
Allah Bless You All!Recommend
Welldone Hunain Ali, i must appreciate your consistant struggle of telling them stuff on global prespective. But my suggestion would be, you have already done your best and still they dont understand. So just hope for the best (for them). And dont worry i can see many here with a brighter idea of dealing with things. You have done a great job from your side. And i understand your intentions were to make them realize things. But if they they still fail, better leave them. Silence to them could be the best way of answering. As when someone is determined to dislike everything you say on the basis of personal biasness then you can’t help the situation just by a dialogue. We all here love our Prophet (P.B.U.H) and by no means want to hurt anyone. Still if they are incapable of picking up. Ignore em’ and let them play Farm Ville on millat fb :p
Btw do they have Farm Ville or stuff like that there :D lolz
Anyways, good day!
Allah Bless You!Recommend
What the LHC did was very very right. Nobody, nobody is allowed to play with our sentiments. And these feelings of extreme love and affection for our Holy Prophet are the hallmark and an honor in my life and somebody goes and draws whatever he/she likes without taking in to consideration my feelings. If I can get killed for protecting this I shall feel that purpose of my life has been fulfilled then what can I do with creator of this content is of course not rocket science. Recommend

what kind of moderation is required in my comments?Recommend
Just some food for thought:
A friend of mine in the US jokingly said he would post outrageous things on BBC News(in the comments section), YouTube, Flicker, etc. which would eventually show up on all the search engines and thereby lead to us Pakistani’s losing most of the internet.
(Is the LHC then going to ban most sites?)
What possessed our courts to block facebook when the KSA, the self-declared protector of Islam, continued to allow full access to facebook?
I don’t want to start a flame war here.. these are just somethings our backward courts need to consider before thinking they can control all things digital. It’s not like a magazine where they can black out pages anymore. Closing facebook is an inconvenience to us only. Facebook couldn’t give a rats a** if Pakistani’s were unable to use the net. Facebook adds about 1 million new accounts a day, and Pakistan has about 2 million net connections! You can be the judge of who paid the price here.Recommend
Hahaha..Man, I am loving it :)
Lets start over with the comments now :P :D
LOL: 100/100, I am with you..we seriously won’t miss the ‘sweet people’ :P..hahaha..LMAO.
Ziad: so true..can you really trust them with anything ? I agree to what you said that Facebook had some privacy issues but MillatFacebook..gimme a break, I can’t trust the people, Thanks to being so famous for ‘Frandshipps’ . O btw, What is the criteria of ‘sweet people’ which has been set ? what are the conditions to accept someone as ‘sweet’ :D ?
Michael: Man it seems you can’t control the happiness :D, haha..Calm down dude and Enjoy :)
Juko: Who are trying to wake up friend ? Those people who don’t even have their own opinions ? Who are driven by some people who consider themselves as the ‘stakeholders’ of islam who have filled their head with crap and they don’t wanna listen anything against it :)
Why wasting your energy here, keep it safe for a vital cause, we will need it for a better reason.
Imran: For how long you have been a user of Facebook and for what purpose have you used it so far..Do you have any idea who was affected the most ? Our pakistani business people who are doing their ‘online businesses’.
Damn you guys never learn.
Shakeel: Don’t you think they should be strong enough to stop us :P, haha..they can’t stop people from accessing a website and they are persons responsible for managing the whole communication system..How interesting :D
Adeel: You wanna de-activate ? I can guide you how to despite of the restricted access..:D
Sarah: Hats off girl !. you did it once again :), An excellent post with some excellent points, I sure would like to quote n reply a few :D.
“Lolzz i dont understand, the supporters of millat FB how will u be able to forget FB” ; Do you really think they were a USER of Facebook, I can bet 90% of the protesters don’t know what Facebook was and as for the boy-cotters, Guess they only used for ‘FRANDSHIP’ :D which they will do better at MillatFB :P
“You should understand that these games are far more bigger than your little brains. So boycotting will only help those who want to do all kinda rubbish against us.” ; so true, this is exactly what happened, an example was that snapshot that i shared.
Last but not least, Thanks for the support and always being there when it was hard to find anyone around :), I believe in the fact that IF something is wrong or someone is doing wrong or is being misguided, we should tell them whats right..rather than following the herd blindfolded. You would have noticed that I am not much active as I was earlier but it is hard to hold back :$. This message is for all who say that I don’t love the Prophet PBUH. I love my Prophet PBUH and i do not need to prove it to anyone, you got my point !!
Oh i did ignore them and please note that I am sure they won’t have Farmville at MFB since Zynga but they will have HaLaLFarms :P
Thanks for the appreciation :)
All the best !Recommend
Sarah: Thanks for mentioning my name :), I just did what i felt was right and should be done..waise to I wonder agar koi Hatelist nikli to I will top that for sure :PRecommend
All is well that ends well but, is this the end that will not ext—end in the future?
Good discussions, good arguments. All the concerned authoritative quarters must join together in brainstorming a solid solution of such challenges in the future.
Of course banning facebook and other websites is not the only option. We must learn and exercise effective and cool communication with the Western world to find a mutual resolution soon.Recommend
Haha. Facebook sure did learn its lesson. I am sure they’ll be celebrating all of today, at least.
And loving the alternatives flowing in, millatfb, facebuddy.pk etc. Great, my social networking experience will be pure now, as all I did on Facebook was visit blasphemous pages and be in awe of them – which I guess everyone in Pakistan was doing thus the blockage.
I’ll be calling my ISP soon, as Facebook still isn’t working and I can’t wait to de-activate my account and co-exist with my peaceful loving Muslim brothers on alternative platforms. Recommend

I ve penned down my random thoughts on FB ban, could be interesting to you…Recommend
THIS DECISION OF HIGH COURT IS GOOD.KNOWING the strategies of your opponent is essential to face that. I think to ban the face book or shouting in the streets was not the solution. but on administrative level strong and firm action is necessary and more effective. We should deal this problem with patience as we have given the example for the patience and tolerance by our beloved Prophet(SAW). our attitude of protest also should be decent.there is limit of tolerance so people out of love of the prophet can not tolerate any such thing but disconecting the link is not the solution. I will suggest my friends to find better and more effective methods to condemn this type of activities.Recommend
To hell with the ban.
We can continue BOYCOTT of Facebook by ourselves.Recommend
