Siu Custody: Four ‘TTP’ men sent on five-day remand

Suspects to remain in Special Investigation Unit’s custody till May 18.

Judicial magistrate, west, Roshan Afzal, sent the four alleged Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) men on a physical remand for five days on Friday.


The men were brought into the court amid strict security and will stay in the Special Investigation Unit’s custody till May 18. The accused, Maaz alias Irfan, Babar Iqbal, Habibur Rahman and Habibullah, belong to the Badar Mansoor group of the TTP, according to the police.

At a news conference on Thursday, SSP chief Omar Shahid said that Maaz was enrolled at the University of Karachi’s Applied Physics Department and was instrumental in scouting for new recruits for the group. The police claimed that they also found explosives, suicide vests and a large cache of arms from their possession. According to the remand papers, the accused were planning to hit a police training establishment and were also linked with the blast at Karachi University.
