KARACHI:

Two workers with the Planning and Development department got their jobs back after they went to court.

Gulbahar and Shakeel Ahmed petitioned the Sindh High Court (SHC), saying that they were offered jobs as a chowkidar and sanitary worker in Basic Pay Scale (BPS) grade 1.

They received their employment letters in 2007 when a caretaker government was in power.

However, when the new government was elected in 2008, the offers were rescinded.

In their petition, Gulbahar and Shakeel informed the judicial bench that the government had given jobs to other people at similar posts.

However, they had been denied their legitimate right to gainful employment and they pleaded that the court should take notice of this transgression.

After hearing the counsel for both sides, the division bench, comprising of Justices Gulzar Ahmed and Shahid Anwar Bajwa, ordered the secretary of the department and the Sindh chief secretary to re-issue their employment offer letters and post them.
