Mehmood Akhtar commited suicide outside Shahbaz Sharif's house by setting himself on fire.
LAHORE: A man set himself on fire and succumbed to his injuries, outside Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s residence in Lahore on Friday.
Mehmood Akhtar committed suicide after his application for allotment of a plot was rejected by the Punjab government.
The incident unfolded after the chief minister’s coordinator told Akhtar that the Punjab government does not have a policy to allot plots.
Akhtar was immediately rushed to Mao Hospital, but soon succumbed to his wounds. Police has taken possession of his body and has informed Akhtar’s family of the tragic incident.
Shahbaz Sharif ordered an inquiry into the matter, while Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer called for a murder case to be registered regarding the death of Akhtar.

The plan works?
It is always so sad to hear such stories. Of course one can say that the poor man made a bad decision since life is a struggle and one should not give up, but the government is the main culprit here. The government has failed utterly in providing the simplest needs of the people from health care to social security. While the 3% rich population of Pakistan continue to enjoy and party continuously, the rest of Pakistan specially the 55% who live below the poverty line and with malnourishment have no choice but live a life akin to slavery in ancient times. While the government has always been busy fooling the people and enriching the same families and tribes in the political order of the nation, these poor masses have been completely ignored. The rich who live in beautiful bungalows and drive airconditioned cars fly to exotic places for vacations all the while the poor can not even afford a proper meal to satisfy their hunger and medicine for their ills.Recommend

The deceased was not among those politicians who are doing politics of plots and permits in the country.
It is really a sad story of a person who during his life time probably wanted to provide shelter to his shelter-less family.
Since Shahbaz Sharif is the Chief Minister of Punjab, now it is his sole responsibility to provide shelter to the deceased family.
The ideal situation would be that Chief Minister should be provided a house constructed to deceased family on the size of the plot deceased wanted to get allotted to construct a house on it.Recommend

Extremely Sad News…. You can imagine the level of pain peoples of Pakistan are facing in country that they welcomes suicides and killing their own daughters/sons. Our society overall has lost values and social responsibility.
We put blame on Governments, otherwise we are equally responsible for all such deaths and murders. What humanity demands from us…please think on it.Recommend
Suicide should never be contemplated as an answer or a solution to any problem no matter how grievous. Sad as the event was we must bear in mind what Mr Akhtar committed was a murder. He did not have the right to take a life, not even his own.
Having said that, the Chief Minister and indeed the Governor, who has brushed it off his shoulder (just because it didn’t happen outside the Governor House, doesn’t take any responsibility off him!) should be held accountable and should take measures that no citizen of the state is driven to desperate measures like Mr Akhtar.
And ultimately it is you and I that are responsible for this murder. Because we take pride in “electing” such leaders and never hold them to account when they fall back on their promised duties.Recommend
And look at the governor’s response to the issue. He has no regard for looking into the tragedy and background of the even occurred, but he simply stated it as a murder! This is very cheap, inhuman, and third class politics – as always expected from current governor of Punjab!!Recommend
i dont get wats wrong with Salman Taseer, his only business is to point out fingers at the CM punjab…seems as if he gets paid for it.

I am so sorry to see the rising level of sucide in Pakistan. We need visionary and bold leaders. Not a single leader talks about overpopulation. Here I will not talk about the justice or injustice issue. The reason is that Pakistan is fast becoming an uncontrollable state. We are trained in throwing responsibility of our problems on others. If governmen cannot muliply resources then at least as a nation like Chinese we must control our poulation. But fear of mullah and his wrong interpretation of religion , I am sure going to land this country, in further troubles.Recommend
