ABBOTTABAD: A man was killed while two others sustained bullet injuries when two armed men opened fire at a funeral in a remote village of Galiyat on Saturday.

Police and eyewitnesses said that mourners were participating in the funeral of a woman from Beerot village at around 10 am when two armed men emerged from the nearby forest and opened fire at them.

Three people were struck by the bullets. One of them died on the spot while two others were critically injured.

The deceased was identified as Yasir Abbasi while the two injured were identified as Qadeer and Afraz. They were rushed to the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad for treatment. Police said that the attack was the result of an old enmity between the attackers and the victims.

Officials said that Yasir had murdered Naveed Abbasi from the same village last Ramazan. Yasir had subsequently served time in jail for a while before Naveed’s family forgave him during a jirga and announced an end to the feud between the two families.

Apparently, they still nursed a grudge against Yasir and Naveed’s brothers attacked Yasir on Saturday, killing him.
