LAHORE:

The Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) threatened, on Tuesday, to close down in-door facilities at government hospitals if the Punjab government did not come up with “solutions for the problems faced by doctors” within the next 48 hours. The association has threatened to close down all departments of the hospitals including emergency wards.

Dr Hamid Butt, the YDA president, who visited several hospitals said that their peaceful protest should not be considered a sign of weakness.

The association leaders said that the district coordination officer was paid Rs20,000 as special relief. The Punjab chief minister had not shown any sympathy towards the doctors.

They urged the chief minister to announce a special package for Punjab doctors.

Health Secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad said that the government was working on a special pay package for doctors which will be announced by the chief minister as soon as resources became available.
He said that the government had decided in principle to raise the salaries of doctors, but lacked the funds needed for it. He said that a strategy was being evolved for generating resources for this purpose and the special package will be announced as soon as funds were available. Press Release
