Professor’s murder: Mastermind among four suspects arrested

Victim’s wife says accused hired hitmen to kill her husband

LAHORE: The Lahore police claimed on Sunday to have arrested the mastermind along with his three accomplices involved in the murder of a college teacher two months ago.

Rao Altaf Husain, an associate professor at the Government Science College Wahdat Road, was on his way to college after dropping off his son to a school in Pak Block, Iqbal Town when two unidentified motorcyclists shot him dead at the Main Boulevard in November.

Police registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s wife against a suspect named Qaiser and two others. The woman told police that the nominated suspect shad hired hitmen to kill her husband, who had been pursuing a murder case against the accused.

Qaiser, the mastermind, was married to Tehmina’s sister whom he had killed and made the case into a suicide.

Police said the suspects were arrested two days ago and presented in court. The court handed over the suspects’ custody to police on three days physical remand.

The main suspect has confessed to his crime and told police that he got Professor Altaf killed for pursuing a murder case against him. Qaiser told police he paid the target killers for this murder. Police have also arrested the hired assassins Izhar, Adnan and Abid.
