KARACHI: Police arrested on Thursday a man along with other family members on suspicion of killing his wife in North Karachi.

Imtiaz, his father Amanat Ali, mother and sister have been booked for the murder of his wife, Aisha, on the complaint of his father-in-law, said Sir Syed police station SHO Zawar Hussain.

Aisha is believed to have been tortured to death by her in-laws over a domestic dispute, said the SHO, quoting the statement of the deceased woman's father.

Her husband had taken her to a hospital in North Karachi on Wednesday night on the pretext that she had committed suicide, said the police officer, however, during the autopsy it emerged that the body bore several torture marks.

According to her father, Aisha was married to Imtiaz some two-and-a-half-years ago but her relations with in-laws were not good. He alleged that her daughter's husband and in-laws would beat her over petty disputes. He complained that his daughter did not commit suicide but was murdered.

"The husband and father-in-law are in custody while the rest have not been arrested as yet," said Hussain.
