13th convocation: BZU bids farewell to 5,733 graduates

48 PhD, 33 MPhil and Master’s degrees conferred

MULTAN: The 13th convocation of Bahauddin Zakariya University was held on Friday where 5,733 graduates were conferred degrees and awarded medals. Among the graduating students were 48 PhDs, 33 MPhils and Masters and 170 gold medallists.

Addressing the convocation, Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana said students had to get research-oriented education to compete with the nations of the world.

“We have to upgrade the standard of our education institutions to bring them at par with international universities,” he said. “Education does not mean to receive degrees only but to serve the country and people as well.”

Rajwana advised the students to implement the knowledge gained in their lives. “I advise you to prefer your national interest over your personal interests,” he added. “Our main aims should be ending corruption, strengthening institutions, promotion of democracy and an independent judiciary.”



The governor said the Punjab government was paying special attention to education. “Sincere efforts of Punjab government have ended child labour in Punjab,” he said. “Poor students are being awarded scholarships and position holders are being given the opportunities to visit world’s top universities.”

He also advised parents to pay attention to the education of girls. “We have to get our daughters educated so that they play their role in the development of the country.”

BZU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Tahir Amin said the education standard at BZU had been improved within one year and the varsity was now ranked number five among all universities of Pakistan.

“Our university is among the best 900 universities of the world,” he claimed. “More teachers have been appointed to end the paucity of teachers and faculty members given scholarships for PhDs in the best universities of the world,” he said. Specials funds have been allocated for research and conferences.

He added more than 50 national and international conferences were held at the university within one year.
