DERA GHAZI KHAN: A man allegedly tortured his wife over a domestic dispute within the precincts of Choti police station in Dera Ghazi Khan on Sunday.

Mumtaz, a rickshaw driver, and Khursheed Bibi got into an argument after she poured water on burning wood after which the husband tortured and beat her. After the incident, the victim’s family members rushed her to Choti Hospital in unconscious condition where she was provided first aid. Later, Khursheed Bibi was shifted to an emergency ward of Dera Ghazi Khan Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, Mumtaz told The Express Tribune that Khursheed Bibi had an argument with her sister-in-law over a matter. When the arguments escalated, they thrashed each other and suffered injuries. As a result, his wife fell unconscious.  He added it was a case of family dispute.

However, brothers of the victim Riaz and Sultan blamed Mumtaz for torturing and trying to kill their sister by giving poison.

When The Express Tribune contacted the police station, SHO Fayyaz Ahmed said the police received complaints that a woman had been injured over a family dispute. He said the investigation officer of the case had been sent to take Khursheed Bibi’s statement and the police would proceed according to the law.

At least 75 cases of torture against women were reported between July and September this year at the Benazir Bhutto Women Crisis Centre, Multan.
