KARACHI: It is our responsibility to honestly utilise public money on development schemes, said Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

He was presiding over a meeting on development schemes being carried out under the annual development programme (ADP).

“I will personally visit under-construction schemes and will take strict action where work is not being done honestly,” he remarked and directed the work and services and irrigation departments’ secretaries to inform their engineers to ensure quality of work and not leave the areas without the permission of the officials.

He also said that despite release of online funds by the finance department, the district treasuries do not forward the funds. On this, Hyderabad Commissioner Kazi Shahid Parvez said that treasuries release their funds when a certified copy is issued by the finance department. The CM then directed the finance department to withdraw the condition of presenting a certified copy.

During the meeting, it was pointed out that ADP schemes worth Rs25 billion were not implemented properly. The CM directed the commissioners to monitor each and every scheme to ensure that their quality is maintained. He also urged them to keep paying visits to the under-construction schemes.

Larkana commissioner Inam Dharejo pointed out that the number of accidents on Indus Highway has increased as it is single carriageway. The CM directed chief secretary Siddique Memon to coordinate with National Highway Authority and solve the issue.
