SUKKUR: Pakistan Peoples Party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of Pak-China friendship, which has now taken the form of brotherly relations.

The adviser to CM on religious affairs, Dr Abdul Qayum Soomro, said this at a dinner hosted in honour of participants of the rally at Commissioner House, Sukkur, on Thursday. The Pak-China Friendship Car Rally was organised to cherish the decades-long friendship between Pakistan and China and particularly the multi-billion dollar Pak China Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. The 22-car rally had started its journey in Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, on September 24. Sponsored by the government of the Ningxia Hui and automotive manufacturer Faw, they travelled hundreds of kilometres before entering Pakistan through the 4,693 meters high Khunjerab Pass last Friday. The rally reached Sukkur on Thursday.

Thanking the Sindh government and its people for the warm welcome to the participants of the rally, Lee, who was leading the rally, said that 57 people are taking part in this car rally, which travelled 18,000 kilometres in 28 days. Talking about CPEC, he said that the project, after completion, will provide better means of communication between the two countries and the people will get more chances to know each other. Seeing similarity in the culture of Sindh and China, Lee said that we can say that our relations are centuries old. When the car rally entered Sindh at Kamoon Shaheed, they were welcomed by Sports Minister Sardar Mohammad Bux Mahar, Education Minister Jam Mehtab Dahar and Sukkur Commissioner Mohammad Abbas Baloch among others. On this occasion, tableaux depicting Sindh's culture were presented and the guests were given traditional gifts.
