KARACHI: A minute and 23 seconds is all Pakistan's Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) star Bashir Ahmad needed to submit his Egyptian opponent Mahmoud Mohamed in their One Championship: State of Warriors featherweight bout at Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on Friday.

The 33-year-old Bashir, who is Pakistan's most prominent MMA fighter, had been on a two-fight losing streak and needed a win to bring his career back on track.

He had vowed to submit Mahmoud in round two but managed to better his own expectations by trapping his opponent in the very first round.

Mahmoud did appear the more aggressive of the two fighters after the fight began, connecting with several hard kicks, although his aggression didn't faze Bashir one bit.

The Synergy founder stuck to his game plan and quickly brought down Mahmoud before luring him into a textbook heel hook that left the Egyptian with no choice but to tap out.

With that win, Bashir improved his career record to four wins and three losses.
