LAHORE: A PML-Q member has served the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) additional director general, Zafar Qureshi, with a legal notice.

The legal notice not only holds Zafar Qureshi responsible for wrongfully involving Moonis Elahi in the NICL case but also accuses him for misguiding the media and the public at large by “arranging publication of a false news report” that stated that Moonis Elahi had been declared a proclaimed offender.

According to the legal notice, Zafar Qureshi, being a senior police officer, was well aware of the difference between a ‘proclaimed offender’ and court’s direction that Elahi be ‘served through proclamation’. Qureshi distorted the proceedings of the court to “willfully tarnish the image of the PML-Q and Moonis Elahi in the eyes of the public”.The legal notice asks for Rs50 million in compensation for maliciously smearing the image of PML-Q’s leaders. The notice was served through PML-Q MNA Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain’s counsel, Irfan Arif.

The notice warns Zafar Qureshi of legal action.
