Common forum: Saarc members to devise anti-graft plan

Delegates will discuss causes of corruption in South Asia

ISLAMABAD: In an effort to strengthen cooperation and assistance amongst South Asian regional bloc states, the National Accountability Bureau will hold the first-ever seminar for ‘Saarc Nations Anti-Corruption Forum’.

Delegates of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan have reached Pakistan for the seminar that will start today (Monday).

Delegates  will discuss causes of corruption in South Asia, exchange of experiences to eradicate corruption and steps taken by Saarc members and efforts to create awareness about the ill effects of corruption.

“It will also provide an opportunity to all Saarc countries to work together to raise public awareness against corruption which is one of the major hurdle in the way of progress and prosperity of the region,” NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said in a statement.

Saarc countries will also discuss enforcement strategy (investigation) and prosecution, international cooperation, assets recovery, technical assistance and information sharing in order to formulate joint strategy for the creation of “SaarcNations Anti-Corruption Forum”.
