Musharraf’s trial: Court seeks govt reply

The court asked the DAG to appear before the court on February 15 and tell the court about the govt's stand.

LAHORE: Justice Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court on Friday directed a deputy attorney general (DAG) to appear before the court in a petition seeking a trial of the former president Pervez Musaharraf under Article 6 of the constitution.

The court asked the DAG to appear before the court on February 15 to tell the court what the government’s stand is on prosecuting Musharraf.

The petitioner, Advocate Rana Jamil, has submitted that Musharraf be tried for treason for toppling an elected government on October 12, 1999, “selling out” Pakistan’s national interests to America, violation of the Constitution on November 3, 2007, killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti, Jamia Hafza carnage and handing over Pakistani citizens, including Dr Aafia Siddiqui, to American authorities for the sake of money among other things. The petitioner has prayed that Musharraf be extradited.
