DERA GHAZI KHAN: Police have registered cases against 29 people for holding a violent demonstration on Monday. Several protesters had gathered in front of the DPO’s office and set his car alight. They had been protesting against police inaction in a murder case that had taken place in the Dajal area of Dera Ghazi Khan. Following the demonstration, police arrested 29 suspects and presented them in front of Judge Wajahat Hussain Khan. Six suspects – Shabbir Ahmad, Kaleemullah, Abdur Rasheed, Muhammad Iqbal and Anayat aka Jahangir – were sent on 14-day physical remand. Two of the suspects – Muhammad Abid and Qurban – were acquitted. The judge denied the police’s request for two-day physical remand for the remaining and sent them on judicial remand in custody of the Rajanpur police. The police inspector general has formed a joint investigation team to probe the matter. He said those responsible would be brought to book.
