KARACHI: An accountability court granted on Friday transitory remand of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi’s (BSEK) chairperson to the National Accountability Bureau in a corruption case. A day earlier, NAB had claimed the arrest of Anwar Ahmed Zai. The bureau maintained he was taken into custody for questioning in connection with alleged corruption and illegal recruitments during his tenure as chairperson of the Board of Intermediate Education, Mirpurkhas. The investigators alleged that Zai was also involved in embezzlement of funds and tampering with results in the Mirpurkhas and Karachi boards. Recently, the Anti-Corruption Establishment raided the BIEK office and arrested its deputy controller of examinations for allegedly altering results. On Friday, the investigators presented Zai in court to seek his physical custody. Allowing the request, the judge remanded him till August 27.
