KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) hunger strike camp continued on the fourth consecutive day as Sindh Assembly speaker and a Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) delegation visited the camp on Saturday.
The MQM has been staging a ‘hunger strike till death’ since Wednesday outside the Karachi Press Club against what it terms as injustices against the party, extrajudicial killings and arrests of its workers and political victimisation.
Sindh Assembly speaker Agha Siraj Durrani visited the camp in a bid to express solidarity with the protesters. He said that he came to know about the camp when he was in Islamabad. “I have come the day I returned back to the city.”
The Pakistan Peoples Party leader also offered to help resolve the issues between the MQM and the government. “I will talk to the chief minister about the [MQM’s] issues,” he said.
Meanwhile, a PML-N delegation led by its provincial president Ismail Rahoo also visited the camp. The ruling party’s delegation assured the MQM of assisting them in meeting their demands.
The MQM appreciated the visits from PPP and PML-N leaders.
