Grassroots: Delay in local govts’ completion condemned

The government has yet to transfer powers to elected representatives nearly a year after local government elections, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Lahore chief Zikrullah Mujahid said on Saturday.

“The delay shows [government’s] mistrust in the system,” Mujahid said in a statement.

He said that a number of streets across the city were in a bad condition.

There were no streetlights in many areas which frequently led to road accidents, Zikrullah Mujahid said.

He said that the street crime was on the rise but the authorities concerned had been unable to address the situation.
