No one 'ruder' than a Pakistani: Wahab Riaz

31-year-old has warned any England cricketers who 'sledge' or verbally abuse may get more than they bargained for

LONDON: Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz has warned any England cricketers who 'sledge' or verbally abuse their opponents during the upcoming Test series may get more than they bargained for.

Thursday sees England and Pakistan meet at Lord's for the opening Test in a four-match series.

It will be Pakistan's first series in England since their infamous 2010 tour.

That saw bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, together with the then captain Salman Butt given five-year bans and jail sentences for their roles in deliberately bowling no-balls during that year's Lord's Test as part of a spot-fixing 'sting' operation by a tabloid newspaper.

Later that tour, when the teams returned to Lord's for a one-day international, fast bowler Riaz and England batsman Jonathan Trott had to be separated in the nets after an angry exchange of words.

Riaz, recalling the incident, told reporters at Lord's on Tuesday.

Ramdin out of Test squad against India

"He was a bit rude and when it comes to being rude, you can never beat the Pakistanis on it. We are the most rude when it comes to it.

"We are nice, but if somebody is rude we won't spare it."

The fast bowler added: "He [Trott] was a bit rude, he was angry, he was not scoring runs, he was getting out early in the ODIs - he was doing well in the Tests.

"It was a frustration he tried to take out on me."

Amir is now back in the Pakistan squad and set to make his Test comeback at Lord's.

Riaz insisted Amir would rise to the occasion and that the Pakistan squad were fully behind his fellow left-arm quick.

Pressed on the issue once more, Riaz told an English journalist: "It's gone now buddy, live in the present."

sabi | 7 years ago | Reply “We are nice, but if somebody is rude we won’t spare it.” A very stupid statement which reflects so many flaws in his character building. The board must educate the players how to respond to bitter jokes coming from some of the cricketer from opposite team which mean nothing but mostly an attempt to develop frankness. Not every Pakistani is like that. False bravado.

farhan | 7 years ago | Reply Great reply by wahab ! Why these indian monkeys are jumping here and there ..this new has nothing to do with them and their class cricket team. By the way I still remember the 2012-13 series and the the way junaid slaughtered india's overrated batting, but was not new to us as our bowlers have had a habbit of destroying india's batting since 50s.

After that the only victory came in 2014 Asia Cup where Dhoni, Raina didn't play and Afridi celebrated as if it was a WC final. As for slaughtering, WT20 2012, 2014, Asia cup 2014, WC 2015, Asia cup 2016, and now WT20 2016 are enough evidence of over rated Pakistani bowling being slaughtered by Kohli. And sadly Kohli can't even reply to Sohail Khan cause what can you say to a mediocre bowler who has played just a dozen games has only 4-5 years left at max and can't even play at home forever.

Samrat | 7 years ago | Reply @Khan Obviously you'd like to remember those 3 ODIs when he wasn't as famous as he is now but not what he did in Asia cup 2012, WC 2015, Asia cup 2016 and WT20 2016. The over rated Pakistani bowling couldn't defend 330 against India and even on a green top in BD they lost miserably. Kohli has slaughtered not only the likes of Wahab, Amir and that chucker Ajmal but he whacks Pakistani bowling at will now. As for my literacy, don't worry about it mate. We Indians are far more literate than you and the whole world knows that. Your literacy is nothing but a joke and so has been proved many a times.

Kohli was slaughtered by Pakistani bowlers on Pakistan's last tour to India so Sohail Khan is even wrong when he said that. You on the other hand need to learn a thing or two about literacy yourself.

Ignoring the real picture, the situation and just focusing on their beneficial aspects. Its a shame that even in today's world we try to present information in such a biased way.

In his domestic level days before he joined Pakistan, he got booted out several times because of his rude behavior and trash talk. Seems like Sheikh Wahab hasn't learnt a lesson. We Pakistani's are already accused of many things and much maligned in international community, so please spare us your cooked up titles. You and your behavior do not reflect Pakistan or its people. Stay put with cricket, buddy.

When someone like Sohail Khan who is already 32 and just played a handful of games says to Dunya news that 'Kohli ghar ka sher hai', it proves not only the rudeness but also wide spread illiteracy among Pakistani cricketers.

Mind it! ;) And if you dont understand point # 2, its time to dub a fcopy of "Maula Jut" in ENGLISH :p And if you STILL Didnt get what Wahab meant, get a copy of his overs he bowled to Shane Watson. :)
