KARACHI: Another case of honour killing surfaced on Monday when a 30-year-old woman was shot dead by her brother-in-law at her house. The woman’s alleged male friend was also wounded in the incident.

N* was a resident of Frontier Colony in Orangi Town, where she was shot and killed by her brother-in-law later identified as Ilyas. The incident occurred late on Sunday night, informed the police.

“The accused Ilyas barged into her house and opened indiscriminate fire at the victim after exchange of words,” said SHO Muhammad Shahid. As a result of firing, the woman was shot multiple times and died shortly after the incident while her male friend, identified as Ghazanfar, was also wounded.

The police also claimed to have arrested the suspect. SHO Shahid claimed that the police personnel who were busy on routing patrolling reached the site and arrested the accused red-handed and also seized a pistol from him.

The accused told the police that N* was a mother of one and used to live alone with her son as her husband works abroad. “I first told my son, Qasim, to kill her but he refused. Then, I took the step and killed her on my own,” the accused recorded his statement to a police.

“She had illicit relations with Ghazanfar. I warned her several times in the past but she never took my warnings seriously which forced me to kill her for honour,” he added.

According to the police, a case has been registered against the suspect while the police have also taken a victim’s alleged male friend into custody for questioning.
