Zayn Malik reveals why he chose Urdu artwork for his clothing line

The latest celebrity to come out with their customised fashion line is none other than Zayn Malik.

The former One Direction singer has launched his 23-piece collection on Zaynmalikstore.com. The Mind of Mine merch collection consists of T-shirts, tops and bomber jackets. But what makes the collection truly special is Urdu artwork.



“My family is from Pakistan, so having artwork in Urdu has huge significance to me,” the Pillowtalk hitmaker said in an interview with Vogue.

No wonder why Zayn's girlfriend Gigi Hadid can't stop flaunting the bomber jacket emblazoned with his name in Urdu.

The merch collection trend was started by Kanye West who came out with a fashion line for his Yeezus tour in 2013 leaving Justin Bieber inspired for his Purpose tour.

Following suit, Zayn's debut solo album Mind of Mine prompted him to launch a collection as well.

“Everything was created with the idea that this is something I would want to wear," Zayn added.

“I wanted to approach this as an opportunity to extend my ideas as an artist, and to give fans another facet of who I am," he said.



Zayn worked with Mark Wilkinson, the artist behind the artwork for Iron Maiden’s last record, to come up with interesting designs.

“Working with Mark gave me a license to do something exciting conceptually with a lot of color and detail,” Zayn disclosed.

“The art we created gives a nod to the vintage rock-band T-shirts but with my own concept," he added.
