Terror bid foiled: CTD nabs alleged terrorist

The suspect, identified as Yasin alias Ungli Kata, belongs to the banned defunct outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan

KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police arrested on Tuesday an alleged terrorist during a raid at Bilal Colony, informed CTD-II SSP Junaid Shaikh.

The suspect, identified as Yasin alias Ungli Kata, belongs to the banned defunct outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan and was planning to carry out a major terrorist attack in the city during the Eid holidays, said Shaikh, adding that the prime target was the national oil refinery in Korangi.

Around four kilogrammes of explosives and a hand grenade were seized from him. The accused confessed to attacking security forces in the city and forcefully collecting sacrificial animals' hides and extortion, the official claimed.

'Political' suspects held

Separately, security forces apprehended two suspects during a raid in Malir. The identities of the suspects have yet to be disclosed but it was informed that they are affiliated with a political party. The police also reportedly seized a huge cache of rocket launchers, arms and ammunition which were hidden underground at their hideout in Malir.

Meanwhile, the paramilitary force conducted targeted raids in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Liaqatabad and Lyari and apprehended six criminals including a suspected target killer affiliated with a political party and two extortionists. Weapons and ammunition were also seized from their possession.
