MULTAN: A seven-year-old student at a seminary in a Laar police precinct was beaten up by his teacher on Wednesday. The child’s parents told The Express Tribune that their son and his friends had apparently hidden the teacher’s shoes and he had flared up because of that.

Police said Hammad*, a resident of Laar, Shujabad, was taken to Shujabad Tehsil Headquarters Hospital after his seminary teacher beat him with a rod. The boy told police that he and his friends often hid their teacher’s shoes and play tricks on him. When they did that on Wednesday, the teacher flared up. The boy said that the teacher had started yelling at them and then accused him of hiding his shoes. He said that the teacher had beaten him up with a rod. Police said that the child had fainted from the beating after which, the teacher had fled.

Hammad’s parents filed a complaint against Umar Khalid, the seminary teacher, with the Laar police. The police directed them to obtain a medico legal certificate after which they would register a case against Khalid.

Akbar Murad, father of the child, said they had sent their son to the seminary because they could not afford to provide him school education. “The seminary is near our house. Right after this incident occurred Hammad’s friends came running to me and told me that he had fainted.”  He said that he had hastened to the seminary and found Hammad lying on the ground. “His legs were black and blue from the beating,” he said.
