KARACHI: The ICC Women’s Championship moves into top gear with England hosting Pakistan in a three-ODI series starting June 20, with the latter’s eye on moving up the rankings.

Plenty will be at stake for both England and Pakistan, who are currently sitting in sixth and seventh positions, respectively. England stand to move up to third if they win the series 3-0, while a similar win for Pakistan will push them up to fifth place.

This will be the last series of round five of seven, while the final two rounds will commence in October and November. The championship is the pathway to ICC Women’s World Cup qualification in July 2017.

Pakistan’s ODI captain Sana Mir said she has a talented side to command with the likes of bowler Anam Amin. “The team now has a reputation of giving a tough time to big teams and we are enjoying living up to it,” said Sana.

“This series is going to be very important for us for the World Cup qualification,” said Sana. “We are not going to shy away from the fact that we have to go all out in the series. The 30-year-old said the team has practiced well for the series.

“We have prepared really well in the Abbottabad camp,” she said. “We tried to practice in conditions which will be similar to the ones in England. “We are going to play two practice games before the actual series. So, the batters will have to adjust very quickly.”

The ODIs will be played on June 20, 22 and 27 while the T20Is will take place on July 3, 5 and 7.
