Pakistan skiers win double silver

Contingent wins five medals in South Asian Winter Games.

Pakistan won two silver medals on the last day of the first South Asian Winter Games that concluded yesterday in India. The team, comprising 22 skiers, bagged a total of five medals including a gold, three silver and one bronze medal.

Amna Wali won her second silver as she came second in the women’s giant slalom. India’s Preeti clocked in with the fastest time to top the event.

Pakistan’s contingent protested Preeti’s win, claiming that she had made a foul at gate number 25 of the track, but video replays showed otherwise.

Mir Nawaz Junior claimed a silver in the men’s giant slalom event, after having won a bronze earlier. Arif Khan of India won gold while Santosh Kumar took bronze. Pakistan’s Javaid Khan came fourth.

The biggest disappointment was Pakistan’s first Winter Olympian Mohammad Abbas, who failed to win any medal.
