LARKANA:

The vice-chancellor (VC) of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SBBMU), Larkana, despite the orders of the apex court, has appointed nine retired professors and 12 new doctors on a three-year contract, ignoring rules.

The move has deprived serving senior doctors of promotions. Sources said that each of them will be paid Rs300,000 monthly and they will also be given pension and other benefits on retirement like other government servants.

The apex court has ordered that no retired person will be recruited. On the other hand, the spokesperson of the VC, Samad Bhatti, alleged in a press statement emailed to journalists that these appointments had been made to complete the faculty for which unnecessary hue and cry is being made. VC Prof Ghulam Asghar Channa justified that contract appointments have been made just to fulfil the faculty as the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council had raised objections to incomplete facilities and faculty.
