BAHAWALPUR:

Cooperatives Minister Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar said on Tuesday that the provincial government had taken significant steps for the welfare of differently-abled people in the province.

A Rs2 billion fund had been allocated for this purpose, he said.

Channar was addressing a public gathering in Tara Garh, Laal Sohanra, near Bahawalpur.

He said the differently-abled registered with the Khidmat Card Programme would be given Rs3,600 after every three months.

He said Disablement Medical Certificate Committees have been constituted at district and tehsil levels.

Those who feel that they deserve the assistance should register themselves with these committees, he said. “They will be eligible to receive the stipend after the verification process.”

The minister said that they were also taking several milestone steps for the welfare of the poor.

Those who cannot afford expensive medical treatment are covered under the Zakaat fund at several public Tehsil hospitals, municipal dispensaries, the Bahawal Victoria Hospital, the Bahawalpur Nuclear Medicine and Technology Centre and the Civil Hospital, Channar told the gathering.

He said the government had also initiated social welfare schemes like the Guzara Allowance, various education scholarships, a Marriage Grant, Eid Allowance and Self-Employment Scheme among others. He urged people to sign up for welfare programmes they were eligible for.
