KARACHI: Around eight children and a man were wounded in a hand grenade attack in Lyari on Saturday.
The incident took place when unidentified men threw a hand grenade near the office of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) located in Kalakot, Lyari. As a result, over half-a-dozen people, mostly children, were wounded.
Ambulances from different welfare organisations reached the site and shifted the injured to the Civil hospital, where doctors termed their conditions to be out of danger.
Seven people hurt in grenade attack in Lyari
The injured included eight-year-old Abdul Basit, Moiz Hussain, 13, Asad Javed, 12, Zahid Altaf, 5, Ali Haider, 6, Abdul Wahid, 4, Aurangzeb Murad, 3, Abdul Shakoor, 5 and Altaf Hussain, 35. The victims were said to be passersby and bystanders.
Following the incident, extra contingent of the police and Rangers also reached the site and collected the evidences. Police officials said that the criminals behind the incident were Lyari-based gangsters. Kalakot SHO Ayaz Khan said that the suspects were on a motorcycle, entered the street on foot, and then escaped on the motorcycle after throwing a hand grenade.

It has yet to be ascertained whether the assailants intended to target the office of the PPP. The police have detained some suspects during a search operation following the incident. Further investigation is under way.
