Army approves promotion of 27 brigadiers as major general

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army promoted 27 brigadiers to the next rank of major general on Thursday.

The army’s selection board approved the promotion of the 27 officers, eight of whom are from the medical corps.

The meeting of the board was held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Thursday. Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif chaired the meeting.



According to a list issued by the ISPR, the brigadiers recommended for promotion to the rank of major general are Muhammad Arif, Zafar Iqbal, Ali Amir Awan, Asif Ghafoor, Muhammad Ali, Azhar Rashid, Saeed Akhter, Nadeem Ahmed Anjum, Khalid Javed, Khalid Zia, Amjad Ali Khan, Abid Latif Khan, Muhammad Saeed, Akhtar Nawaz, Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat, Muhammad Raza Jalil, Saqib Mahmood Malik, Muhammad Imtiaz Khan and Amer Nadeem.

Those promoted from the medical corps include brigadiers Tariq Hussain, Khawar Rehman, Ammar Raza, Safdar Abbas, Sohail Aziz, Aslam Khan, Saleem Ahmed Khan and Waseem Ahmed.

Brigadiers are the fifth-highest and the first “starred” rank in Pakistan Army. Major generals are two-star officers with their next promotion rank the three-star lieutenant general.
