Health facilities : Sahiwal DHQ hospital to be upgraded

Commissioner Azhmat Mahmood says it is the government's top priority to provide health services to the people

The provincial government has approved of a Rs3.5 billion grant to upgrade the Sahiwal District Headquarters Hospital, Sahiwal Commissioner Azmat Mahmood said on Wednesday.


He was addressing a session held in his office to oversee progress on various development schemes. Mahmood said it was the government’s top priority to provide health services to the people. He said the government policy on health included the establishment of health centres, upgrading hospitals, providing lifesaving medicines and to employ more doctors. The commissioner said under the project, several new medical departments would be set up at the District Headquarters Hospital and more treatment facilities would be available to the masses.

He directed district officials to complete work on upgrading the sewerage system and to restore the hospital building by March 31. The total cost of restoring the building and upgrading the sewerage system was Rs107 million. He told authorities to speed up construction so that the project could be completed in its stipulated time.
