KARACHI:

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah lashed out at federal agencies on Friday, exhorting them to refrain from overstepping their mandate.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) at the Chief Minister’s House, Shah told participants that the agencies were making raids and arrests in Sindh “as if they have purged all federal departments of corruption.”

Mr Qaim Ali Shah, you have faced tremendous injustice at the grimy hands of this public

“I refuse to accept that corruption is a problem exclusive to my government,” he said, stressing that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) did not have the jurisdiction to interfere in provincial matters.

Talking about the actions of Rangers in Karachi, the chief minister said the paramilitary force did have the mandate and power to take action against those involved in terrorism and other heinous crimes, like target killing, kidnapping and extortion.

“But I’m sorry to say they [Rangers] have also started assuming the role of the anti-corruption department,” he added.

Blame game: Corruption not exclusive to PPP, says CM

“For God’s sake, stick to your mandate … [and] stop attacking Sindh,” he urged federal agencies.

At the same time, he lauded the role of the paramilitary force in restoring peace in Karachi.
