SUKKUR: Power supply to almost half of the province remained suspended for more than twelve hours — from midnight on Wednesday till Thursday afternoon.

Power supply to Sukkur, Rohri, Pannu Aqil, Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo, Ubauro, Daharki, Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Larkana, Ratodero and Khairpur were without electricity.

According to the Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco), the long power outage was due to heavy fog, which resulted in the tripping of a 132-kilovolt transmission line connecting Guddu Thermal Power Station to Lodra Grid Station, Shikarpur.

The Sepco superintendent engineer, Rafiq Noonari, attributed this fault to old power distribution lines. A Sepco official, requesting anonymity, said that such power outages are aimed at covering line losses, which are caused mostly due to the rampant power theft.

Fog across the province has been delaying flights and travel plans.
