KARACHI:

The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed two key resolutions during its Private Members' Day session — one seeking uninterrupted gas supply during Sehri and Iftar in Ramazan, and the other calling for an increase in insurance compensation in case of accidental death from Rs100,000 to Rs500,000.

The session, chaired by Speaker Syed Owais Qadir Shah, saw a resolution moved by MQM-P lawmaker Muhammad Mazahir urging the Sindh government to review the compensation amount under its universal insurance scheme. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the government did not oppose the proposal, terming it a positive step. Labour Minister Saeed Ghani also expressed principled support, after which the resolution was adopted unanimously.

Another resolution, tabled by PPP MPA Sumeta Afzal Syed, demanded that gas load-shedding during Sehri and Iftar be avoided in Ramazan. Opposition Leader Ali Khurshidi noted that similar resolutions had been passed previously and stressed the need for implementation. Sharjeel Memon said the provincial government had already written to the federal authorities on the matter. The House passed the resolution unanimously.

The Assembly rejected two opposition resolutions — one by PTI's Shabbir Qureshi seeking an increase in the upper age limit for jobs on the Sindh job portal, and another by MQM-P's Aamir Siddiqui proposing financial assistance for markets unable to install fire safety equipment.
