The three-day 10th National Thalassaemia Conference will start today at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The conference and the workshop are being organised by the Thalassaemia Federation Pakistan (TFP) where national and international experts will present their papers. Addressing the press conference at Karachi Press Club, Dr Saqib Hussain Ansari, TFP member and Omair Sana Foundation general secretary, said that the TFP is trying its best to eradicate the disease from Pakistan. "We all want to see thalassaemia-free Pakistan," said Dr Ansari. Dr Sarfaraz Hussain Jafri, TFP vice-president, urged the provincial government to join TFP in the fight against the disease. Dr Ansari urged the government to include thalassaemia status in the national identity card. The status of the disease should also be included in the marriage certificate, he added.
